We at Options Pregnancy Resources offer the free pregnancy services, education, and support you need to make an informed decision for your future. Know that the final decision is yours.
How Do I Tell My Parents?
If you are pregnant, where do you begin to share it with your parents? We know this step seems scary and intimidating, but it may not be what you fear. Here are some things to keep in mind before sharing the pregnancy news:
- Share the news at a convenient time for your parents (on the weekend, when off work, when they have time to properly process the news)
- Remember not to take what your parents say personally (they will be processing the news as well)
- Give your parents space if needed
- If you feel unsafe, tell a parent the news over the phone
- Remain as calm as possible and let them talk once you’ve shared
- Answer their questions as best as you can
Will My Partner Support Me?
If you haven’t told your partner about your pregnancy quite yet, you may have some hesitations. Thinking about what you want to say beforehand will help you go into the conversation feeling more prepared. Some things to consider:
- What do I want to include in our conversation?
- How will I react if my partner doesn’t respond how I hope?
- How will I react if my partner tries to persuade me to choose an option I’m not comfortable with?
